No need to fly to Egypt! 😂✈️ There’s a giant 15-metre Sphinx right here in North Geelong.
The Sphinx Hotel is one of those wonderfully unique places that the kids will remember.
With its enormous Egyptian-inspired façade, statues, hieroglyph-style details and larger-than-life Sphinx watching over the entrance, you certainly can’t miss it when you arrive. The venue has been family owned and operated by the Ramia family for more than 55 years.
Family Dining at Pharaoh’s Bistro
Inside you’ll find Pharaoh’s Bistro, a relaxed family-friendly restaurant serving classic pub favourites with plenty of options for adults and kids. We enjoyed wandering around and checking out all the Egyptian-themed details before settling in for our meal.
Pharaoh’s Bistro is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, with lunch from 11:30am–2:30pm and dinner from 5pm.
Families are well catered for here too. There’s a large outdoor playground for the kids, plus an indoor iPad room for those days when the weather isn’t cooperating. On Monday nights, kids meals start from just $5 and there are activities including face painting and crafts.

There are plenty of reasons to visit during the week, with current specials including:

- 🍴 Tuesday: $20 dinner specials
- 🥩 Wednesday: Steak Night from $28
- 🧀 Thursday: $24 Parmi Night
- 🦪 Friday: $2 natural oysters – minimum six
- 🍖 Sunday: $25 fresh carvery
Specials can change, so it’s always worth checking with the venue before visiting.
More Than Just a Bistro
The Sphinx Hotel is also home to the Luxor Showroom, which hosts live music, tribute shows and comedy performances, along with a sports bar and accommodation.
For us, though, it’s the combination of the quirky Egyptian theming, family-friendly dining and kids’ play areas that makes it such a fun stop with the family. It’s definitely worth adding to your list if you’re looking for somewhere a little different to eat on your next Geelong day trip.
