The Queens are back – and Melbourne audiences are already losing their heads over the return of SIX the Musical!
We attended opening night at Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre and absolutely loved every minute of it. Having seen SIX during its previous Melbourne season, we couldn’t wait to experience it again – and this electrifying new Australian cast certainly did not disappoint.
Playing at the Comedy Theatre until 4 October 2026, SIX transforms the stories of Henry VIII’s six wives into a high-energy, 80-minute pop concert packed with powerful vocals, spectacular costumes, clever humour and plenty of girl power.
A Musical Unlike Any Other
Forget the traditional history lesson. Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anna of Cleves, Katherine Howard and Catherine Parr take centre stage to reclaim their stories and compete over who endured the most as Henry VIII’s wife.
What begins as a spirited competition soon becomes something much more meaningful – a celebration of sisterhood, individuality and women taking ownership of their own narratives.
The show moves at an incredible pace, with one catchy song after another and no interval. From the moment the Queens step onto the stage, the energy rarely drops. The live band, known as the Ladies in Waiting, is also right there on stage, adding to the atmosphere of a full-scale pop concert.

The latest Australian cast brings together an outstanding group of musical theatre performers:

Each Queen brings her own personality, humour and vocal style to the production, while still working beautifully together as an ensemble.
The vocals are phenomenal, the choreography is sharp and energetic, and the glittering costumes are every bit as impressive as we remembered. While every Queen has her moment to shine, the chemistry between the cast is what makes the show so enjoyable.
We absolutely love this musical. We saw it when it was last in Melbourne and couldn’t wait to see it again and it was just as fun, uplifting and entertaining the second time around.
SIX is clever, modern and refreshingly different from a traditional stage musical. It blends Tudor history with contemporary pop music, humour and empowering storytelling in a way that appeals to dedicated musical theatre fans as well as people who may not usually attend live theatre.
The songs are instantly catchy, the performers are incredibly talented and the atmosphere feels more like attending a concert for a chart-topping girl group than sitting through a history lesson.
It is bold, funny, emotional and completely captivating. By the finale, the entire theatre was on its feet – and we would happily see it all over again.

Created by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, SIX first premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2017 before becoming an international phenomenon.

The production has since played across the West End, Broadway, Australia and more than 15 countries. It has won 38 international awards, including two Tony Awards, while its platinum-certified soundtrack has been streamed billions of times around the world.
