Piccolina Gelateria Opens a Stunning New Store on Bourke Street, Melbourne!

Melbourne’s favourite Italian gelato has a beautiful new home in the heart of the CBD, and this one is definitely worth checking out!

If there’s one thing Melbourne does well, it’s good food, and when it comes to gelato, Piccolina has certainly made a name for itself!

The much-loved Melbourne gelato brand has officially opened its newest store at 68 Bourke Street, Melbourne, right next door to the iconic Pellegrini’s Espresso Bar.

With stunning Italian-inspired interiors, delicious handmade gelato, Nutella on tap and plenty of sweet treats, it’s the perfect little stop when exploring the city with the kids.

And trust us, this isn’t your average ice cream shop!

A Beautiful New Gelateria in Melbourne’s CBD

From the moment you step inside Piccolina’s newest store, there’s plenty to admire.

The beautiful gold ceilings, elegant arches, glowing lights and colourful interiors make this one of Melbourne’s most eye-catching gelaterias.

One of the standout features is an impressive eight-metre glass menu display, created using 70 individual pieces of antique glass.

Designed in collaboration with Projects of Imagination and March Studio, the space brings together traditional Italian influences with a little Melbourne history.

Even the golden ceiling pays tribute to Melbourne’s gold rush heritage!

It’s a gorgeous space that makes stopping for a simple scoop of gelato feel like a special little outing.

The Family Story Behind Piccolina Gelateria

What makes Piccolina even more special is the story behind the brand.

Founded by Sandra Foti, Piccolina was inspired by her Italian heritage and childhood memories of watching her father make traditional gelato.

Her father learnt the craft in southern Italy, passing down a love of authentic flavours and traditional techniques.

After spending around 20 years working in the design industry, Sandra decided to follow her passion for gelato.

She travelled to Italy to further develop her skills before opening Piccolina’s first store in Hawthorn in 2016.

What began as one little gelateria has grown into one of Melbourne’s most recognisable gelato brands.

Despite its success, Piccolina continues to celebrate the family traditions and Italian flavours that inspired it.

We always love discovering the stories behind Melbourne businesses, especially those built on family memories and a genuine passion for food.

Authentic Italian Gelato Made From Scratch

Of course, the real reason to visit is the gelato!

Piccolina is known for making traditional Italian-style gelato using quality ingredients and recipes inspired by authentic Italian methods.

Rather than relying on pre-made flavour bases, the team prepares its gelato from scratch.

That includes making its own nut butters, chocolate ganaches, caramels, jams and delicious toppings.

The Bourke Street store offers a selection of 17 signature flavours alongside three rotating weekly specials, giving visitors plenty of delicious options.

Some favourites include:

🍫 Chocolate
💚 Pistachio
🥥 Coconut
☕ Coffee
🌰 Hazelnut
🍯 Honeycomb
🍦 Stracciatella
🌿 Mint

Whether you’re a traditional vanilla lover or enjoy trying something different, there’s something to satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth.

Nutella on Tap, Milkshakes and More!

If gelato wasn’t tempting enough, Piccolina’s newest store has a few extra surprises!

One of the biggest highlights is the Better Than Nutella tap, serving a rich, house-made chocolate and hazelnut topping straight onto your gelato.

Yes, chocolate lovers, you read that correctly!

There’s also freshly whipped Italian cream, known as panna, which can be added to your favourite scoop.

And if you’re after something a little different, you’ll also find signature milkshakes and delicious special occasion cakes.

It’s the sort of place where choosing just one treat might be the hardest part of your visit!
