Looking for a Melbourne dining spot that feels like a mini European escape without leaving the CBD? Afloat is back on the Yarra River for another summer season, and this time it’s bringing the sun, sea and flavours of Greece to Melbourne.
Sitting right on the water at Flinders Walk, AFLOAT has transformed its floating venue into a Greek-inspired summer oasis, drawing inspiration from destinations including Milos, Paros, Mykonos, Athens, Crete and Santorini. Think blue and white interiors, striped cabanas, palms, woven pendant lights and some pretty impressive views across the Yarra and Melbourne skyline.
We recently stopped by for a daytime lunch and it’s easily one of those Melbourne spots where the location is just as much a part of the experience as the food.
A Taste of Greece in Melbourne
This season’s menu is made for sharing, with plenty of Greek and Mediterranean-inspired dishes to order across the table.
We tried a selection that included dips with warm pita, pan-fried saganaki, a fresh Greek-style salad and the Grilled West Australian Octopus with fava, capers and red onion.
For a heartier main, we went for the 250g O’Connor Black Angus Porterhouse, served with herb butter, roasted peppers and skordalia. At $46, we thought it was a generous restaurant meal for a CBD waterfront location, and the steak was definitely one of our favourites from lunch.
There’s plenty more on the menu, including fried calamari, king prawns, lamb kofta and chicken gyros, grilled lamb chops, pizzas, fish and chips, swordfish and a 1kg ribeye designed for sharing.
Vegetarian and vegan choices are available too, including zucchini fritters, falafel and a vegan mezze plate.
Don’t Skip the Drinks
The drinks fit the summer theme perfectly. If you’re after an alcohol-free option, the Non Miami Vice is a frozen combination of pineapple, coconut, lime and strawberry and looks every bit as good as the setting.
There are also non-alcoholic limoncello spritzes and passionfruit mojitos, alongside Afloat’s full cocktail, wine and drinks offering.
The Location Is Hard to Beat
One of our favourite things about Afloat is the outlook.
You’re literally dining beside the Yarra with views towards the city, passing boats and surrounding bridges, and on a sunny Melbourne day it has that relaxed holiday feel that makes you want to settle in for a long lunch.
The venue itself is huge, with different seating areas spread across the floating space. This season’s Greek makeover includes blue-and-white detailing, greenery, colourful striped seating and private cabana-style spaces.
Afloat describes its 2026–27 season as a celebration of the beauty, energy and spirit of Greece.
Visiting Afloat With Kids
While Afloat is better known as one of Melbourne’s popular summer bars, we found a daytime visit worked really well as a family lunch.
The relaxed shared-style menu means there are plenty of approachable choices such as pita, dips, chicken, chips, pizza and grilled meats, while adults can still enjoy the full Afloat experience.
For families, we’d personally opt for an earlier lunch or afternoon booking rather than later in the evening. Under-18 access and restrictions can vary for particular areas or special events, so it’s worth checking the conditions when you make your reservation.
Planning a Group Celebration?
If you’re organising a birthday, long lunch or group get-together, Afloat also has several group options this season.
There are Athena Banquets from $75 per person and Zeus Banquets from $95 per person, while the Greek beach club-inspired cabanas start from $40 per person and are designed for groups of approximately 8–50.
Afloat also runs seasonal events throughout summer, so it’s worth checking the current calendar before visiting.

Afloat has always been one of Melbourne’s most unique summer venues, but we really love this year’s Greek theme. Between the waterfront location, bright Mediterranean styling, shareable food and those city views, it genuinely feels like a little slice of the Greek Islands right in the middle of Melbourne.
