The Music of Studio Ghibli – Original Singers Symphony

Last night’s The Music of STUDIO GHIBLI – Original Singers Symphony at the Palais Theatre was genuinely something special.

The performance itself was stunning – a full live orchestra paired with the original singers whose voices shaped so many of our childhood memories. Hearing these iconic songs performed live, with sweeping strings and powerful vocals, felt emotional in the best way.

What really elevated the night was how personal it felt. Between songs, the singers spoke to the audience in Japanese, with a warm, super-friendly MC translating and sharing their stories.

Despite the theatre being packed, it created an intimate, welcoming atmosphere. One performer even mentioned how much of an honour it was to perform in such a historic venue – a moment that really landed with the crowd.

I was also pleasantly surprised by how many children were in attendance. Seeing so many young fans experiencing this music live – alongside parents who clearly grew up with it – made the night feel truly multi-generational.

If you grew up with Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle or Princess Mononoke, this concert is one of those pinch-me moments. Hearing those songs live – performed by the very voices that made them iconic – honestly feels magical.

Studio Ghibli fans – this truly feels like a once-only experience. Nostalgic, moving, and beautifully done.
