Melbourne families have a new must-do on their doorstep – the St Kilda Penguin Viewing Experience is officially open, offering the chance to get up close with our city’s very own colony of little penguins.

Just minutes from the CBD at the end of St Kilda Pier, visitors can watch these adorable penguins waddle from the bay to their burrows nestled in the rocks of the breakwater.

With a dedicated viewing platform, stunning views of Port Phillip Bay (Naarm), and expert guides on hand, it’s a magical way to connect with nature right in the heart of Melbourne.
What to Expect
Session 1: After sunset, see the penguins make their journey home from the water to their burrows.
Session 2: About an hour after last light, experience the colony come alive with the sounds and activity of penguins settling in for the night.
Both sessions provide unforgettable opportunities to observe the penguins in their natural habitat while learning fascinating facts from knowledgeable guides.

Bookings are essential: Tickets are free but limited, and are now booked out until March 2026. Future sessions open around six months in advance, so be sure to plan early.
