Last night we were transported straight into the world of the King of Pop at MJ the Musical and honestly, it’s one of the most electrifying productions we’ve ever experienced at Her Majesty’s Theatre.
From the moment the curtain rose, the energy was unstoppable. The set design felt like a Time Machine, moving us seamlessly from the rehearsal studio of the 1992 Dangerous World Tour to the unforgettable eras of the Jackson 5, Off the Wall, Thriller, and beyond. Every transition was slick, powerful, and packed with detail.
The music was a full celebration of Michael’s greatest hits – more than 25 classics performed live with such precision and passion that the whole audience couldn’t help but groove along. From ABC and I Want You Back through to Billie Jean, Smooth Criminal and Man in the Mirror, it was pure goosebumps moment after moment.
But it was the cast that left us speechless. Their talent is extraordinary – the singing, the dancing, the emotion. Ilario Grant as MJ and Liam Damons as teenage Michael both brought charisma and vulnerability to their performances, while the younger cast members Blaiyze Barksdale as little Michael and Kayleb Alese as little Marlon had the audience grinning from ear to ear. Derrick Davis as Joseph Jackson was commanding, and Josslynn Hlenti Afoa’s Katherine Jackson brought such warmth and heart. Every single performance was powerful, polished, and deeply moving.
By the finale, the entire theatre was on their feet – cheering, clapping, and some even with tears in their eyes. It’s not just a musical, it’s an emotional journey through the artistry, struggles, and genius of Michael Jackson.
