Looking for a family-friendly food spot that’s anything but ordinary? We recently checked out Big Earle’s BBQ in Port Melbourne – and it was a hit with the whole crew!
As soon as you walk in, it’s clear this isn’t your average BBQ joint. This open-air American-style BBQ joint is packed with personality, from quirky décor and vintage signs to fire pits and toy cars.

Every corner is filled with something fun to spot, making it feel like stepping into a movie set – part Texan smokehouse, part Mad Max, and fully unique. Live music plays Friday and Saturday evenings, adding to the vibrant, family-friendly atmosphere.

Our kids were immediately drawn to the playful quirks dotted around the venue, including a pool table, foosball, and ample space to roam. It quickly became clear why reviewers and families consistently praise this place. And yes, it’s dog-friendly too, so furry family members are welcome!
We ordered the Brisket Loaded Fries and Brisket Sanger (sandwich), and both were delicious. The 12-hour slow-smoked brisket was juicy, richly seasoned, and tender enough to fall apart at the bite. Our kids couldn’t get enough, proving that this was a definite win.

The brisket Sangers, served on brioche with slaw, pickles, and crisps, were a hit too.

Each bite was packed with smoky goodness and balanced flavours, making them a real crowd-pleaser in our crew.
Big Earle’s is renowned for its hearty portions and solid value. Their Mega Tasting Plate, an all-you-can-share platter, is a local favourite, featuring brisket, ribs, pork, sausage, fries, slaw, and pickles.

The venue consistently receives praise, boasting a near-perfect 4.8/5 rating from over 500 reviews. This is due to its friendly staff, cosy fire pits, and family-first vibe. Time Out has even recognised it as Melbourne’s top American barbecue, describing its “industrial Mad Max meets American suburban barbecue” energy and emphasising the “really good” meat.

Beyond the delicious food, the setting is a major drawcard. Fire pits keep things warm on cooler days, while the energetic buzz of weekend live music and relaxed crowd creates a lively atmosphere. The venue is dog-friendly, wheelchair-accessible, and walk-ins only – no booking needed.
