Moomba Festival

Melbourne’s iconic Moomba Festival is back for its 71st year, running from Thursday, 6 March to Monday, 10 March 2025. This beloved event transforms the banks of the Yarra River, Birrarung Marr, and Alexandra Gardens into a vibrant hub of free, family-friendly activities and entertainment.

Festival Highlights:

• Moomba Parade (Monday, 10 March): Experience the spectacular procession featuring larger-than-life floats, dance troupes, and community groups celebrating Melbourne’s rich diversity. Designed by local children, these floats add a unique charm to the festivities. 

• Birdman Rally (Sunday, 9 March): Witness daring participants launch homemade flying devices over the Yarra River, all in the name of charity and fun. This quirky event is a Moomba favourite, promising splashes, spills, and plenty of thrills. 

• Carnival Rides (6–10 March): From adrenaline-pumping roller coasters to classic family-friendly rides, the Moomba Carnival offers excitement for all ages. This year’s new attraction, the Sky Flyer XXL, promises to be a crowd-pleaser. 

• Nightly Fireworks (6–10 March): Each evening at 9:00 PM, the skies over the Yarra River will light up with dazzling fireworks displays, providing a perfect finale to the day’s festivities. 

• Live Music and Performances: Enjoy a diverse lineup of local and international artists, dance workshops, and interactive activities that cater to all musical tastes. 

• Food Trucks and Market Stalls: Savour a wide array of culinary delights from various food vendors, ensuring that foodies have plenty to indulge in throughout the festival.

Moomba Monarchs 2025:

This year, the festival crowns the popular comedy trio Sooshi Mango as its Moomba Monarchs. Known for their hilarious “ethnic dad” characters, the group brings their unique brand of humour to the festivities, adding an extra layer of entertainment to the event.

Moomba Festival is easily accessible via public transport, with trams and trains running regularly to the city. Attendees are encouraged to use these services to avoid traffic and parking hassles.
