Our adventure began at the heart of Jakarta, where the towering 132 m obelisk known as the National Monument (Monas) stands proudly in Merdeka Square.

Istiqlal Mosque:
Next on our itinerary was the grand Istiqlal Mosque, Southeast Asia’s largest and the world’s ninth-largest mosque in terms of worshipper capacity.

Built to commemorate Indonesian independence, the mosque’s name, “Istiqlal,” symbolizes “independence.” The intricate architecture and serene atmosphere were truly awe-inspiring.

Walk through Silaturahmi Tunnel:
A unique and symbolic experience followed as we journeyed through the Silaturahmi Tunnel, an underground passageway connecting Istiqlal Mosque and St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral.

Its design, resembling a handshake gesture, signifies the importance of unity and friendship.

St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral:
Jakarta’s Cathedral, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, is an architectural masterpiece known for its neo-gothic design. Officially named … Maria Pelindung Diangkat ke Surga, meaning the Church of Our Lady of Assumption. Jakarta Cathedral, locally translated to ‘Gereja Katedral Jakarta’ in Bahasa Indonesia, is a certified Jakarta’s top attraction. This impressive 1901 neo-gothic church is the current seat of the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Jakarta.
